Old Dominion at James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. (Interstat) — A Sun Belt Conference rivalry renews Saturday when James Madison hosts Old Dominion, with both teams looking to build momentum after recent splits in league play.

The Dukes (8-8, 1-2 Sun Belt) and Monarchs (5-12, 2-2) tip off at 4 p.m. EST at the JMU Convocation Center. This is the second meeting this season; Old Dominion won the first matchup 77-68 in Norfolk on Dec. 17.

James Madison seeks to rebound from a narrow 66-64 home loss to Marshall on Wednesday. The Dukes have shown resilience, having secured a 78-74 road win at Arkansas State on Jan. 3. Eddie Ricks, a player to watch for JMU, is coming off a 12-point performance against Marshall. In the first game against ODU, Ricks finished with 7 points and 2 assists.

Old Dominion arrives with some confidence after snapping a five-game skid with a 70-66 road victory at Coastal Carolina on Thursday. The Monarchs were propelled by a career-high 29 points from guard Robert Davis, who played 38 minutes. Davis, the team’s focal point, averaged 16.4 points over his last five games entering the Coastal Carolina contest and will be central to ODU’s offensive plans again.

Despite their overall record, the Monarchs have been competitive in conference play. James Madison holds a .500 record but has struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses over its past six games.

The matchup pits Old Dominion’s search for its first winning streak since November against a James Madison team defending its home court, where it is 6-3 this season. The Dukes will aim to contain Davis and improve their offensive execution after shooting poorly in the final minutes against Marshall.

A win would give James Madison a boost before a two-game road trip. Old Dominion looks to carry its late-game poise from Thursday into another tough conference road environment.
