Hampton at College of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — A surging College of Charleston looks to continue its climb in the Colonial Athletic Association standings when it hosts a struggling Hampton team at TD Arena on Saturday.

The Cougars (10-6) have won six straight games, their longest winning streak of the season, and are 3-0 in conference play. The Pirates (8-9), meanwhile, have lost three of their last four, including a 72-86 defeat at Campbell on Thursday, and are seeking their first CAA victory.

Charleston’s run has been fueled by the stellar all-around play of guard Jlynn Counter. Over the last six games, he has averaged 21 points, 7.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists, narrowly missing a triple-double with 16 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in a win at Elon on Dec. 31. In Monday’s 88-79 win over William & Mary, Counter posted 16 points and six assists.

Hampton will counter with the explosive scoring of Michael Eley, who is coming off a career performance. Despite the loss at Campbell, Eley poured in 43 points in 30 minutes, showcasing a remarkable bounce-back after being held scoreless in just eight minutes in a loss at UNC Wilmington on Jan. 3. His season has been volatile, including a 31-point outing in a win at Jackson State on Dec. 18.

The Pirates have shown an ability to win close games, with narrow victories over Towson and Stony Brook in late December, but have struggled on the road with a 2-6 record away from home. Charleston is 6-1 at home this season.

The Cougars’ offense has been potent during their streak, averaging 81.2 points per game over the last six. Hampton’s defense, which allowed 86 points in its last outing, will face a significant challenge in slowing that momentum.

This matchup marks the first meeting between the programs as CAA foes. Following this game, Charleston hits the road for two contests, at Towson and Stony Brook, while Hampton returns home to host North Carolina A&T on Jan. 19.

Tipoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at TD Arena.
