Gonzaga Dominates Loyola Marymount in West Coast Conference Rout

SPOKANE, Wash. (Interstat) — The Gonzaga Bulldogs, showcasing the depth and defensive intensity that has defined their dominant season, overwhelmed the visiting Loyola Marymount Lions 82-47 in a West Coast Conference men’s basketball game Sunday at a sold-out McCarthey Athletic Center.

The most important part of the game was not a single play, but a sustained defensive effort by Gonzaga that completely smothered Loyola Marymount’s offense from the opening tip and never relented. The Bulldogs, improving to 16-1 overall, held the Lions to a season-low in points and a frigid 30.2% shooting from the field. Loyola Marymount’s 47 points were the fewest allowed by Gonzaga this season.

The tone was set early. After Loyola Marymount’s Rokas Jocius scored on a tip-in for the game’s first basket, Gonzaga embarked on a 14-0 run over the next six minutes, a stretch where the Lions missed 10 consecutive shots and committed three turnovers. The Bulldogs’ defense was active and disruptive, generating nine steals and forcing 11 total turnovers, which they converted into easy transition opportunities.

Gonzaga’s lead ballooned to 33-19 by halftime, and any notion of a Lions comeback was extinguished immediately after the break. The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 9-2 burst, capped by a Tyon Grant-Foster 3-pointer, to push the advantage to 42-21 just over two minutes into the period. The lead never dipped below 20 points again, as Gonzaga’s offensive efficiency, posting an offensive rating of 117.6, steadily pulled away.

The Bulldogs’ attack was balanced, with five players scoring at least nine points. Graham Ike led the way with 16 points, while Mario Saint-Supery added 13 points and five assists. Jalen Warley contributed 12 points, Adam Miller had 11 and Grant-Foster finished with nine. Braden Huff chipped in eight points and four assists.

Loyola Marymount, which fell to 10-7, was led by Rodney Brown’s 11 points. Nakyel Shelton added eight points. The Lions struggled to find any offensive rhythm, managing only three assists as a team against Gonzaga’s relentless pressure.

Gonzaga shot 53.7% from the field and outrebounded the Lions 42-33. The Bulldogs’ bench outscored Loyola Marymount’s reserves 34-16, highlighting the team’s superior depth.

The victory extends Gonzaga’s home winning streak and solidifies its position atop the WCC. The Bulldogs, whose only loss came at Michigan in November, have now won nine consecutive games. Loyola Marymount, coming off a close road loss to Washington State, has dropped two straight.

A crowd of 6,000 watched the game at the Kennel. Gonzaga next hosts Santa Clara on Thursday. Loyola Marymount returns home to face San Francisco on the same night.
