Georgia State at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. (Interstat) — Sun Belt Conference play resumes Saturday when Coastal Carolina hosts Georgia State at HTC Center, with both teams looking to rebound from narrow conference losses earlier this week.

The Chanticleers (8-7) fell 82-81 in overtime to Georgia Southern on Thursday, despite a dominant rebounding performance from forward Nadjrick Peat, who grabbed 15 boards to go with eight points. Coastal Carolina has shown resilience, winning close road games at Saint Joseph’s and Old Dominion in December.

Georgia State (4-11) arrives after an 84-80 loss at Marshall on Wednesday. The Panthers have struggled for consistency but are powered by guard Trey Scott, who scored 15 points with five rebounds in that defeat. Scott has been a key contributor, including a 13-point effort in a win at Appalachian State on Dec. 20.

The matchup pits Coastal Carolina’s modest winning record against a Georgia State team seeking to turn its season around. The Panthers’ offense, which erupted for 110 points in a late December win over Columbia, will test a Chanticleers defense that allowed 82 points in its last outing.

Peat’s presence in the paint will be crucial for Coastal Carolina. Over his last five games, he has averaged 9.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks, providing a steady defensive anchor.

For Georgia State, finding support for Scott will be essential. Jelani Hamilton and Joah Chappelle combined for 25 points and 12 rebounds against Marshall, offering a secondary scoring threat.

This marks the first of two scheduled meetings between the programs this season. Following this contest, Coastal Carolina hosts Old Dominion on Jan. 8, while Georgia State prepares to host Appalachian State on the same date.
