Boston College at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA (Interstat) — Atlantic Coast Conference play resumes Saturday when Georgia Tech hosts Boston College at Hank McCamish Pavilion, with both teams looking to build momentum after nonconference seasons of mixed results.

The Yellow Jackets (9-5) enter with the better record and home-court advantage, having won five of their last seven. Their most recent outing was a competitive 85-79 road loss to then-Duke on New Year’s Eve. Junior guard Jaeden Mustaf has been a consistent all-around contributor, averaging 9.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists over his last three games. Kowacie Reeves, who scored 23 points against the Blue Devils, provides a key scoring punch alongside him.

Boston College (7-6) has won three of its last four, including a 72-64 victory over Le Moyne on Dec. 28. The Eagles are led by dynamic guard Donald Hand, who is coming off a 26-point, 7-rebound performance in that win. Over his last four games, Hand has averaged 17.5 points. Fred Payne, who added 22 points and 7 rebounds against Le Moyne, offers vital secondary scoring.

The matchup pits Georgia Tech’s slightly more potent offense, which has scored 80 or more points in four of its last five wins, against a Boston College team seeking its first true road victory of the season. The Eagles are 0-2 in away games, with losses at Massachusetts and Georgia.

A concern for Georgia Tech will be containing Hand and improving its perimeter defense after allowing Duke to shoot 52% from the field. For Boston College, finding scoring options beyond Hand and Payne will be critical against a Yellow Jackets squad that has been strong at home, going 7-2 at McCamish Pavilion this season.

This contest opens the ACC schedule for both teams. Georgia Tech will host Syracuse next Tuesday, while Boston College travels to face North Carolina State on Jan. 6.

Tip-off is set for noon EST on Saturday.
