Georgia Tech at Duke
DURHAM, N.C. (Interstat) — The Duke Blue Devils, looking to rebound from their first loss of the season, will host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Wednesday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.
Duke (11-1) saw its perfect start end with a heartbreaking 82-81 home loss to Texas Tech on Dec. 20. Star sophomore forward Cameron Boozer was brilliant in defeat, scoring 23 points and dishing out seven assists. He leads a potent Blue Devils attack averaging 84.8 points per game. Boozer has been consistently dominant, including a 29-point performance in a narrow win over Florida earlier this month.
Georgia Tech (9-4) enters on a four-game winning streak, most recently an 89-65 victory over Florida A&M on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets are powered by forward Baye Ndongo, who recorded a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double in that contest, adding five assists and three blocks. Ndongo’s interior presence will be critical against Duke’s formidable frontcourt.
The matchup pits Duke’s high-powered offense against a Georgia Tech team that has found its rhythm but has struggled against high-major competition. The Yellow Jackets’ four losses have come against Mississippi State, Drake, DePaul and Georgia, highlighting the challenge of facing an elite opponent on the road.
History heavily favors the Blue Devils, who have traditionally dominated the series at Cameron Indoor Stadium. For Georgia Tech to pull an upset, they will need to control the tempo, win the battle on the boards and find a way to contain Boozer.
Wednesday’s game tips off at 7 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ACC Network. It begins a crucial conference slate for both squads as they look to establish an early ACC foothold to close the calendar year.
