Michigan Dominates La Salle to Stay Undefeated
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Interstat) — The Michigan Wolverines delivered a commanding and comprehensive performance Sunday afternoon, overwhelming the La Salle Explorers from the opening tip and cruising to a 102-50 victory at Crisler Center. The win extended Michigan’s perfect start to the season to 11-0, while La Salle fell to 4-9.
The game was effectively decided in the first half, as Michigan’s stifling defense and efficient offense built an insurmountable lead. The Wolverines forced the Explorers into 19 turnovers for the game, converting those miscues into 28 points, while committing only nine turnovers themselves. Michigan’s defensive pressure, which generated 12 steals and six blocks, consistently disrupted La Salle’s offensive flow, holding the visitors to a frigid 27.9% shooting from the field and a dismal 9.5% from three-point range.
The most important part of the game was Michigan’s immediate and relentless defensive intensity, which set the tone and created a cascade of offensive opportunities. From the opening possession, the Wolverines applied pressure, leading to rushed La Salle shots and live-ball turnovers. This defensive dominance translated directly into offense, allowing Michigan to build a 54-33 halftime lead. The Wolverines shot 58.1% from the field in the first half, including 8 of 16 from beyond the arc, while La Salle struggled to find any consistent scoring outside of free throws. The early run established a pace and margin that La Salle, facing a significant talent and athleticism deficit, could never challenge.
Michigan’s offensive attack was balanced and potent, with six players scoring in double figures. The Wolverines shot 54.8% overall and connected on 14 of 29 three-point attempts. They also dominated inside, outscoring La Salle 38-20 in the paint and adding 15 fast-break points.
Aday Mara, the 7-foot-3 center from Zaragoza, Spain, was the top star for Michigan, recording a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes. He also added four assists, two blocks and a steal, showcasing his all-around impact. LJ Cason contributed 13 points and four assists, while Trey McKenney led all scorers with 17 points. Elliot Cadeau and Morez Johnson each added 14 points, and Yaxel Lendeborg filled the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds and five assists.
For La Salle, Jaeden Marshall was the lone bright spot, scoring 15 points, all but two of which came from the free-throw line where he was a perfect 13-for-13. Ashton Walker added six points and six rebounds, and Josiah Harris chipped in eight points and four rebounds. The Explorers’ 50 points marked a season low, and their offensive rating of 65.7 on 76 possessions underscored the severity of their struggles against Michigan’s defense.
The Wolverines’ victory was their most lopsided of the season and continued a trend of dominant non-conference performances. Michigan entered the game as a heavy favorite, with statistical models giving them a 99.3% probability to win, and they easily covered the 39.5-point spread. The combined score of 152 points fell just under the over/under line of 151.5.
La Salle will look to regroup before opening Atlantic 10 Conference play at home against George Mason on Dec. 31. Michigan, one of the few remaining undefeated teams in the nation, will close its non-conference schedule at home against McNeese State on Dec. 29 before a pivotal stretch of Big Ten and high-profile non-conference games in January. The announced attendance at Crisler Center was 12,707.
