Baylor Bears Dominate Alcorn State Braves in Lopsided Victory
WACO, Texas (Interstat) — In a display of overwhelming efficiency and firepower, the Baylor Bears dismantled the Alcorn State Braves 113-56 in a nonconference men’s basketball game Friday night at the Ferrell Center.
The Bears, improving to 8-2, left little doubt from the opening tip, building a 55-30 halftime lead and never relenting. The victory was a comprehensive statistical domination, anchored by a breathtaking shooting performance. Baylor connected on 42 of 65 field goal attempts, a scorching 64.6%, while holding Alcorn State to a frigid 22 of 74, just 29.7%. The Bears also outscored the Braves 20-6 from the free-throw line.
Cameron Carr led the Baylor onslaught with 24 points, three blocks and two steals in just 25 minutes, continuing his strong play after a 19-point, four-block performance in his previous outing. He was one of six Bears to score in double figures. Isaac Williams added 21 points and three assists, Michael Rataj contributed 18 points and five assists, and Tounde Yessoufou chipped in 17 points. Obi Agbim scored 14 points and Dan Skillings finished with 12.
For Alcorn State, which fell to 1-10, Shane Lancaster provided a bright spot with 17 points. Nick Woodard added 11 points.
The most important part of the game was Baylor’s immediate and sustained offensive execution, which rendered any notion of an upset impossible within the first few minutes. After Alcorn State’s Nick Woodard opened the scoring with a layup, Baylor responded with a 10-0 run, capped by a Tounde Yessoufou three-pointer. The Bears’ ball movement was crisp, their shot selection was pristine, and their transition game was lethal. By the first media timeout, Baylor had established a double-digit lead it would only expand, shooting over 70% from the field for much of the first half while forcing the Braves into a series of early turnovers and contested attempts.
Alcorn State, facing its tenth high-major opponent in eleven games this season, struggled to find any consistent offensive rhythm against Baylor’s length and athleticism. The Braves finished with an offensive rating of just 69.7 points per 100 possessions, a testament to the Bears’ stifling defense. Baylor, meanwhile, operated at an elite level, posting an offensive rating of 143.2.
The second half offered more of the same, as Baylor opened with a quick 6-0 spurt to erase any lingering doubt. The Bears’ lead ballooned past 40 points as they continued to share the ball, finishing with 29 assists on 42 made baskets, and capitalized on Alcorn State’s 14 turnovers.
A crowd of 7,019 watched as Baylor covered the pregame spread with ease and the total score of 169 points went under the projected over/under line of 163.5. The Bears now look ahead to a quick turnaround, hosting Southern on Sunday. Alcorn State continues its arduous road schedule, next traveling to face Mississippi on Dec. 29.
