Oregon Ducks Dominate UC Davis Aggies in High-Scoring Affair

EUGENE, Ore. (Interstat) — The Oregon Ducks delivered a dominant and efficient offensive performance, overwhelming the UC Davis Aggies 104-62 in a nonconference men’s basketball game Saturday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.

Oregon, which evened its record at 5-5, left little doubt from the opening tip, establishing a commanding 52-16 halftime lead. The Ducks shot a blistering 60.7% from the field for the game, including 10 of 21 from three-point range, and their offensive execution was reflected in a staggering offensive rating of 144.8 points per 100 possessions. UC Davis, which fell to 5-4, struggled mightily in the first half, shooting just 20% from the floor and committing nine turnovers before the break. The Aggies finished the game at 35.1% shooting.

The most important part of the game was Oregon’s immediate and relentless first-half surge, which rendered the contest effectively over by halftime. The Ducks opened on a 13-2 run, fueled by early layups from Nate Bittle and Jackson Shelstad, and never relented. UC Davis went scoreless for stretches of over four minutes on two separate occasions in the period. Oregon’s defense was equally disruptive, forcing 14 Aggie turnovers and blocking five shots, which consistently fueled their transition offense. The Ducks’ lead ballooned to 36 points by the intermission, allowing them to cruise through the second half, where both teams scored 52 points.

Shelstad, a sophomore guard from West Linn, Oregon, orchestrated the onslaught with 21 points and nine assists in just 29 minutes. He was one of six Ducks to score in double figures. Takai Simpkins added 18 points, while Kwame Evans Jr. had 14 points and three assists. Ege Demir provided a strong interior presence off the bench with 15 points and seven rebounds.

For UC Davis, Carl Daughtery led the way with 15 points. Brayden Fagbemi contributed nine points and four assists, and Jalen Stokes also scored nine points. The Aggies, who entered the game with a top-100 offensive efficiency rating nationally, were held to an offensive rating of just 84.9, their lowest output of the season.

Oregon’s victory snapped a two-game losing streak that included close defeats to Southern California and UCLA. The Ducks outperformed pregame expectations as a 11.5-point favorite, covering the spread with ease, while the combined score of 166 sailed over the over/under line of 147.

UC Davis will look to regroup when it returns home to face Seattle on Wednesday night. Oregon continues its homestand, also on Wednesday, against Portland before a marquee road test at Gonzaga on Dec. 21.
