Virginia Tech vs. Colorado State
NASSAU, The Bahamas (Interstat) — Two of the nation’s early-season surprises, the undefeated Virginia Tech Hokies and the once-beaten Colorado State Rams, will face off in a nonconference men’s basketball showdown Wednesday at Imperial Arena.
The Hokies (5-0) are off to their best start in several years and are coming off a 78-61 victory over Bryant last Wednesday. Tobi Lawal led the way with 18 points, while Christian Gurdak added 15. Virginia Tech’s offense has been potent, averaging 92.2 points per game, highlighted by a 107-101 overtime win against Providence.
Colorado State (4-1) looks to bounce back from its first loss, a narrow 83-81 defeat to Denver on Friday. Despite the loss, Kyle Jorgensen had a standout performance, scoring 29 points. The Rams had previously dominated their schedule, winning their first four games by an average of 26.5 points.
The neutral-site game in The Bahamas presents a major test for both teams before they return to their respective conference schedules. Virginia Tech will face Saint Mary’s the following day, while Colorado State’s next game is against in-state rival Colorado on Dec. 6.
