Louisiana-Lafayette at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Interstat) — The undefeated Santa Clara Broncos look to extend their best start in years Friday when they host the struggling Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns in a non-conference men’s basketball game.

Santa Clara (5-0) returns to Leavey Center after a 64-55 victory over Idaho State on Tuesday. Christian Hammond led the Broncos with 16 points in that contest, part of a balanced attack that has keyed the team’s perfect record. The Broncos’ early-season resume includes an impressive 87-68 road win at Xavier.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (1-4) arrive on the West Coast seeking to halt a three-game skid. They are coming off a 93-66 road loss to Stanford on Tuesday, where Joshua Lewis scored a team-high 16 points. Louisiana-Lafayette’s lone win this season was a 58-52 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 7.

The matchup pits Santa Clara’s potent offense against a Louisiana-Lafayette defense that has allowed an average of 83.2 points in its four losses. The Broncos have scored 87 or more points in three of their five games.

This is the first meeting between the programs. Following this game, Santa Clara travels to face Saint Louis in Palm Desert, California, on Nov. 27. Louisiana-Lafayette continues its California road trip at UC Davis on Nov. 24.
