Central Connecticut at Massachusetts

HADLEY, Mass. (Interstat) — Two teams riding the momentum of recent victories will meet Sunday when the Central Connecticut Blue Devils visit the Massachusetts Minutemen in a non-conference men’s basketball matchup at the Mullins Center.

Both teams enter the contest with identical 2-1 records. Central Connecticut is coming off a stunning 60-59 road win over Boston College on Tuesday, secured by a last-second basket. Melo Sanchez led the Blue Devils with 17 points in that upset, while Darin Smith added 14 points.

The Minutemen, meanwhile, are looking to build on a high-scoring 94-80 home victory against Le Moyne on Thursday. Marcus Banks poured in 26 points for UMass, with K’Jei Parker adding 19 points and five assists.

The game will be a test of Central Connecticut’s resilience, as its two wins have been a dramatic blowout of a lower-division opponent and the narrow upset of Boston College, sandwiched around a 71-49 loss to Quinnipiac. Massachusetts has also shown a potent offense at home, averaging 88.5 points in its two wins in Hadley, but suffered a season-opening home loss to Marshall.

Following this game, Central Connecticut continues a challenging road stretch at Rutgers, while UMass heads to the U.S. Virgin Islands to face the College of Charleston.
