Cal State Bakersfield at Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (Interstat) — Two Big West men’s basketball teams heading in opposite directions will meet Saturday when Cal Poly hosts Cal State Bakersfield at Robert Mott Gym.

The Mustangs (13-17, 8-7 Big West) have won four of their last six games and are looking to secure a winning conference record to end the regular season. The Roadrunners (8-22, 3-12), meanwhile, are mired in a nine-game losing streak and sit at the bottom of the league standings.

Cal Poly will seek to replicate its dominant performance from the teams’ first meeting on Jan. 29, a 104-79 road victory. In that game, the Mustangs shot 58% from the field and had six players score in double figures.

The Mustangs are led by guard Hamad Mousa, who is averaging 22.3 points over his last four games. He scored 29 points in a 102-92 win over Long Beach State on Feb. 26. Cal Poly averages 78.2 points per game, ranking third in the conference.

Cal State Bakersfield’s struggles are pronounced, having lost 13 of its last 14 games. Its most recent outing was a heartbreaking 88-87 home loss to Long Beach State on Feb. 28. The Roadrunners rank last in the Big West in scoring offense (68.8 points per game) and scoring margin.

The lone bright spot has been the explosive scoring of forward Ronald Jessamy. He is coming off a career-high 40 points in a loss at UC San Diego on Feb. 26 and followed that with 33 points against Long Beach State. Over his last seven games, Jessamy is averaging 19.3 points, though his production has been volatile.

Cal Poly will honor its seniors before the 7 p.m. PST tipoff on Saturday, March 7, 2026. The game will be a final tune-up before the Big West Tournament in Henderson, Nevada. The Mustangs are fighting for seeding, while the Roadrunners are searching for any momentum to carry into the postseason.
