North Carolina at Duke
DURHAM, N.C. (Interstat) — The final weekend of the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season will feature its fiercest rivalry at its most intense, as North Carolina visits top-ranked Duke on Saturday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The matchup carries significant implications for the ACC title race and NCAA tournament seeding. Duke (28-2, 15-2 ACC) enters with a chance to clinch the conference regular-season championship outright. The Blue Devils have been dominant, winning 12 of their last 13 games, with their only loss in that span coming against the Tar Heels. Their average margin of victory in the last five games is 29 points.
North Carolina (24-6, 13-4) can play spoiler and bolster its own postseason resume with a season sweep of its archrival. The Tar Heels won the first meeting 71-68 in Chapel Hill on Feb. 7. They have won five of their last six games, including a gritty 67-63 home win over Clemson on Tuesday.
A key matchup will feature Duke’s star forward Cameron Boozer against North Carolina guard Luka Bogavac. Boozer, a national player of the year candidate, is coming off a 26-point performance at N.C. State and averages 20.1 points per game. He scored 24 in the first meeting with UNC. Bogavac provides a scoring spark off the bench for the Tar Heels, erupting for 20 points in just 22 minutes against Clemson.
The atmosphere at Cameron Indoor Stadium, where Duke is undefeated this season, will be electric. The Blue Devils have not lost at home since last February. North Carolina, however, has proven it can win in hostile environments, boasting key road wins at Virginia and Syracuse this season.
Saturday’s winner gains crucial momentum heading into the ACC tournament next week and the NCAA tournament beyond. For Duke, it’s about securing a title and avenging its earlier loss. For North Carolina, it’s an opportunity to solidify its status as a national contender and complete a prized regular-season sweep.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
