Creighton at Butler
INDIANAPOLIS (Interstat) — Two Big East men’s basketball teams seeking momentum for the conference tournament will meet Wednesday when the Butler Bulldogs host the Creighton Bluejays at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The matchup features teams with nearly identical records. Butler enters at 15-14 overall, while Creighton sits at 14-16. Both squads have struggled for consistency in recent weeks, making this a pivotal game for postseason seeding.
Creighton aims to snap a two-game skid after a narrow 79-76 home loss to Providence on Saturday. The Bluejays have lost five of their last seven, though one highlight was a 91-84 road win at then-Connecticut on Feb. 18. Guard Jasen Green has been a key contributor, averaging 10.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists over his last eight games. He is coming off a 12-point, 8-assist performance against Providence.
Butler also looks to rebound after a 73-82 loss at Villanova last Wednesday. The Bulldogs have split their last six contests. Forward Michael Ajayi leads their attack, averaging 16.1 points and 6.4 rebounds in his last seven outings. He scored 24 points in a win over Xavier on Feb. 21.
In the season’s first meeting, Creighton edged Butler 89-85 in Omaha on Dec. 30. Wednesday’s rematch in Indianapolis provides Butler a chance for home-court revenge.
Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. EST Wednesday. Butler’s next game is at DePaul on Saturday. Creighton’s next opponent was not listed in the provided information.
