Tennessee State at Tennessee-Martin

Preview: Tennessee State at Tennessee-Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. (Interstat) — A pivotal Ohio Valley Conference men’s basketball matchup with potential postseason seeding implications is set for Saturday when the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks host the Tennessee State Tigers at Skyhawk Arena.

Both teams enter with momentum, having secured victories on Thursday night. Tennessee State (20-9) defeated Southeast Missouri State 79-71 on the road, led by 20 points from Dante Harris and 18 from Travis Harper. The Tigers have won seven of their last nine games.

Tennessee-Martin (21-9) is coming off a 64-49 home win over Tennessee Tech, fueled by 12 points and two blocks from key reserve Lamine Niang. The Skyhawks have weathered a recent stretch of close losses, going 3-3 in their last six contests.

The matchup features two of the conference’s top teams. Tennessee State’s offense runs through guard Aaron Nkrumah, who has been a consistent force. Over his last eight games, Nkrumah is averaging 18.6 points, including a 26-point, 11-rebound performance against Lindenwood on Feb. 19.

For the Skyhawks, Niang provides a defensive spark off the bench. In victories this month over Southern Indiana and Tennessee Tech, the forward combined for 16 points and six blocks, showcasing his ability to alter games defensively.

The teams met earlier this season, with Tennessee State earning a 78-71 home win on Dec. 18, 2025. The Tigers will look to complete the regular-season sweep, while the Skyhawks aim to defend their home court and solidify their standing.

With nearly identical records, Saturday’s contest is a critical late-season test for both squads as they jockey for position ahead of the OVC tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST.
