Abilene Christian at Utah Valley
Preview: Abilene Christian Wildcats at Utah Valley Wolverines
VINEYARD, Utah (Interstat) — The Utah Valley Wolverines, riding high near the top of the Western Athletic Conference standings, will host the Abilene Christian Wildcats in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Saturday at the UCCU Center.
Utah Valley (21-7) enters the matchup with significant momentum, having won five of its last six games. The Wolverines are coming off a 79-72 home victory over Tarleton State on Thursday, powered by a 24-point performance from standout forward Isaac Davis. Davis has been a consistent force, averaging 17.3 points over his last three contests.
Abilene Christian (13-15) looks to snap a two-game skid and improve its conference positioning. The Wildcats fell 85-81 at Utah Tech on Thursday despite a 27-point outing from guard Chilaydrien Newton. Newton has been the offensive catalyst for ACU, scoring in double figures in eight consecutive games and averaging 18.1 points during that stretch.
This game is a quick rematch of a Feb. 5 meeting in Orem, which Utah Valley won 68-55. In that game, the Wolverines’ defense held Newton to eight points. The series split this season, however, with Abilene Christian claiming an 85-68 home win on Jan. 3.
The matchup pits Utah Valley’s formidable defense, which has held opponents to an average of 60.8 points over its last four wins, against an Abilene Christian offense that has shown explosiveness but struggled with consistency. Beyond Newton, the Wildcats will need production from Bradyn Hubbard, who scored 23 points in the loss to Utah Tech.
For Utah Valley, maintaining its defensive intensity will be key. Alongside Davis, contributors like Trevan Leonhardt and rim-protector Tyler Hendricks, who had three blocks against Tarleton State, provide a balanced attack.
A Utah Valley victory would solidify its standing as one of the WAC’s top teams heading into the final week of the regular season. For Abilene Christian, an upset on the road would provide a crucial resume boost and momentum ahead of the conference tournament.
Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026.
