UTEP at Western Kentucky

HADLEY, Ky. (Interstat) — A surging Western Kentucky looks to solidify its position in the Conference USA standings when it hosts struggling UTEP on Saturday at E.A. Diddle Arena.

The Hilltoppers (17-11, 8-5 CUSA) have won four straight games, including a dominant 93-70 victory over New Mexico State on Thursday. They are powered by guard Teagan Moore, who is averaging 24.8 points during the win streak. He scored 23 points in 28 minutes in the most recent win.

UTEP (10-18, 4-9) arrives on a four-game skid, most recently falling 77-67 at Middle Tennessee on Thursday. Despite the losses, guard Kaseem Watson has been a bright spot, scoring 24 points in that defeat. He is averaging 15.1 points over his last seven contests.

Western Kentucky won the first meeting this season, 68-56 at UTEP on Jan. 10. The Hilltoppers have used efficient offense during their streak, scoring at least 82 points in each of the four wins.

UTEP has struggled with consistency, alternating wins and losses for much of January before its current February slump. The Miners have lost eight of their last 10 games overall.

For Western Kentucky, a win would bolster its seeding for the upcoming conference tournament. For UTEP, the game represents a chance to play spoiler and gain momentum before its final homestand next week.

The matchup tips off at 7 p.m. EST Saturday as part of Conference USA’s regular-season schedule.
