Texas at Texas A&M
Preview: Texas A&M Hosts Texas in SEC Showdown
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Interstat) — A critical Southeastern Conference rivalry renews Saturday when the Texas A&M Aggies host the Texas Longhorns at Reed Arena.
The Aggies (19-9, 9-6 SEC), ranked 23rd in the latest AP poll, look to solidify their NCAA Tournament seeding and complete a regular-season sweep of their in-state foes. The Longhorns (17-11, 8-7), meanwhile, arrive seeking a résumé-boosting road win to enhance their own postseason prospects.
Texas A&M won the first meeting this season, 74-70, in Austin on Jan. 17. The Aggies have won three of their last five, but are coming off a 99-84 road loss at Arkansas on Wednesday. In that game, forward Zach Clemence erupted for a season-high 29 points in just 25 minutes. The senior has been a key offensive variable, scoring 20 or more points in two of his last five outings.
The Longhorns have dropped two straight, including an 84-71 home loss to Florida on Wednesday. Their offense runs through guard Dailyn Swain, who has been on a prolific scoring run. The junior has topped 20 points in five of his last seven games, averaging 21.9 points per contest in that stretch. He scored 21 in the first matchup against the Aggies.
Texas A&M holds the edge in the standings and on its home court, where it is 13-2 this season. The Longhorns are just 3-7 in true road games. A Texas victory would provide a major Quadrant 1 win, while the Aggies aim to protect their home floor and improve their conference tournament positioning.
The game tips off at 1 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on ESPN. Texas visits Arkansas next Wednesday, while Texas A&M hosts Kentucky on Tuesday.
