Colgate at Navy
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Interstat) — A surging Navy squad looks to continue its dominant Patriot League run and complete a regular-season sweep when it hosts a Colgate team seeking redemption Saturday at Alumni Hall.
The Midshipmen (24-6 overall) enter the contest as one of the conference’s hottest teams, having won nine straight games. Their most recent victory was a commanding 78-51 road win at Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, fueled by 25 points from guard Jinwoo Kim. Navy’s streak includes an 84-80 overtime triumph over these same Raiders on Feb. 14 in Hamilton, New York.
Kim has been a consistent offensive force for Navy, averaging 15.4 points over his last seven contests. He scored 10 points in the first meeting with Colgate. The Midshipmen’s defense has been equally impressive, holding opponents under 65 points in five of their last nine games.
Colgate (17-13), meanwhile, aims to halt a two-game skid and solidify its conference tournament positioning. The Raiders are coming off a heartbreaking 70-69 home loss to Lafayette on Wednesday, despite 12 points and eight assists from point guard Ben Tweedy.
Tweedy will be central to Colgate’s hopes for an upset. The dynamic guard is averaging 12.1 points and 4.4 assists over his last nine games, including a 16-point, 6-assist performance in a 101-98 overtime win over Loyola Maryland on Feb. 21. He was held to just one rebound and one assist in the earlier loss to Navy.
The Raiders have shown resilience, playing in four overtime games since Jan. 24, but replicating that effort against a Navy team thriving at home will be a significant challenge. The Midshipmen are 12-2 at Alumni Hall this season.
Saturday’s matchup pits Navy’s stifling defense and efficient scoring against a Colgate offense that can be potent but has struggled with consistency. The Raiders will need a major performance from Tweedy and improved defensive discipline to counter Navy’s balanced attack and break their winning streak.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
