Syracuse Edges SMU on Last-Second Basket in ACC Thriller

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Interstat) — Nate Kingz made a layup with two seconds remaining to lift Syracuse to a 79-78 victory over SMU in a men’s Atlantic Coast Conference basketball game Saturday at the Carrier Dome.

The Mustangs led 39-35 at halftime and held a narrow advantage for much of the second half. Syracuse’s Donnie Freeman scored 18 points and the Orange used an 11-for-30 performance from three-point range to stay close. SMU dominated inside with 44 paint points and got 19 points from Jaden Toombs, but Syracuse’s eight blocks helped offset that.

The teams were tied with 69 possessions each in an efficient offensive game. Syracuse improved to 14-11 overall, while SMU fell to 17-8. A crowd of 19,680 attended.
