Robert Morris at Youngstown State
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Interstat) — A pivotal Horizon League clash is set for Saturday when the Robert Morris Colonials visit the Youngstown State Penguins at Beeghly Center.
Robert Morris (15-10) enters with momentum after a 72-66 home win over Wright State on Wednesday. The Colonials have won three of their last four, showcasing an offense that has topped 88 points three times in January. Their success is heavily fueled by guard Ryan Prather, who is averaging 19.4 points over his last eight games. He scored 17 points with five assists in the win over Wright State.
Youngstown State (12-11) is also coming off a strong performance, a dominant 90-61 road victory at Purdue Fort Wayne. The Penguins have shown volatility but possess high-scoring potential, winning two of their last three. Guard Bryson Dawkins has been a consistent force, averaging 16.7 points over his last seven contests. He led the Penguins with 18 points in their recent rout.
The teams’ first meeting this season was an instant classic, with Robert Morris edging Youngstown State 80-77 in overtime on Dec. 17. That result will likely add an edge to this rematch as both squads jockey for position in the conference standings.
The matchup features two of the league’s top guards in Prather and Dawkins. Prather’s ability to score and facilitate will test a Youngstown State defense that has been inconsistent. Dawkins, coming off an efficient 18-point effort, will look to penetrate a Colonial defense that allowed 83 points in a loss to Purdue Fort Wayne just last week.
With both teams hovering near the .500 mark in league play, Saturday’s contest carries significant weight for postseason seeding. Robert Morris will aim to sweep the season series, while Youngstown State seeks to defend its home court and exact revenge from December’s narrow defeat.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
