Morehead State at Tennessee-Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. (Interstat) — A surging Tennessee-Martin squad looks to solidify its Ohio Valley Conference standing and complete a regular-season sweep when it hosts a Morehead State team seeking redemption Saturday at Skyhawk Arena.

The Skyhawks (18-5), among the conference leaders, have won seven of their last eight games, including a gritty 55-52 defensive win over Arkansas-Little Rock last Tuesday. They previously defeated the Eagles 76-68 on Jan. 8 in Morehead. Tennessee-Martin has been dominant at home this season and features a balanced attack led by guard Matas Deniusas. He is coming off a 17-point performance against Little Rock and has averaged 12.3 points over his last seven contests, providing consistent scoring and defensive activity.

Morehead State (12-11) aims to halt a two-game skid after a last-second 79-78 home loss to Lindenwood on Jan. 31. The Eagles had won four straight prior to that setback. They will lean on forward Jon Carroll, who posted a near double-double with nine points and eight rebounds in the loss to Lindenwood and erupted for 22 points in a Jan. 15 overtime contest. Carroll’s interior presence will be key against a stout Skyhawks defense.

The matchup pits Tennessee-Martin’s conference-best defense against a Morehead State offense that has shown flashes but struggled with consistency. The Skyhawks have held opponents to an average of 57.2 points during their current three-game win streak.

With the OVC tournament seeding at stake, the Eagles need a signature road win to bolster their resume, while the Skyhawks aim to protect their home court and maintain momentum for a conference title push. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon.
