Towson at Hofstra

Preview: Towson Tigers at Hofstra Pride

STEWART MANOR, N.Y. (Interstat) — Colonial Athletic Association rivals Hofstra and Towson will meet for the second time this season Saturday when the Pride host the Tigers at Mack Sports Complex.

Hofstra (15-9) won the first matchup 78-67 at Towson on Jan. 8, part of a 3-1 stretch to open conference play. The Pride have since gone 4-5 in the CAA but are coming off an 80-63 home victory over Northeastern on Thursday. Guard Preston Edmead led the way with 23 points and eight assists, continuing a strong run of form. Over his last eight games, Edmead is averaging 18.6 points and 5.1 assists.

Towson (13-11) has alternated wins and losses over its past six games, most recently an 82-50 rout of Hampton on Jan. 31. The Tigers are 6-5 in conference play. They are led by guard Dylan Williamson, who erupted for 29 points and seven assists in the win over Hampton. Williamson has scored 20 or more points in four of his last eight contests.

The game features a contrast in recent momentum. Hofstra has won two straight, while Towson seeks consistency after its 32-point win followed a loss to UNC Wilmington.

Both teams rely heavily on their backcourt stars. Containing Edmead, who has dished at least seven assists in three of his last four games, will be a primary focus for Towson. Conversely, Hofstra’s defense must account for Williamson’s scoring and playmaking, particularly after his near 30-point performance last time out.

The Pride hold a slight edge in the standings and own the head-to-head victory from last month. A win would solidify their position in the upper tier of the CAA, while the Tigers aim to level the season series and climb back to .500 in conference play.

Saturday’s tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST. Hofstra will visit College of Charleston next on Feb. 12, while Towson will host Stony Brook on the same date.
