Stetson at Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the ASUN Conference will meet Saturday when the Eastern Kentucky Colonels host the Stetson Hatters at McBrayer Arena.

Both teams enter the matchup with identical 8-16 overall records. Stetson (8-16) is coming off a 92-71 road loss at Bellarmine on Thursday. Eastern Kentucky (8-16) snapped a four-game skid with a 76-74 home victory over Florida Gulf Coast that same night.

The game features a compelling backcourt matchup between two of the league’s top guards. Stetson’s Jake Johnson is averaging 14.1 points and 4.1 assists in conference play. He scored 17 points with five assists in the loss to Bellarmine and had a 19-point performance against Queens (N.C.) on Jan. 17. For Eastern Kentucky, Montavious Myrick provides a versatile scoring threat, averaging 13.8 points in ASUN action. He led the Colonels with 15 points in their win over FGCU and posted 19 points at North Florida on Jan. 22.

Stetson has struggled on the road in conference play, with its only ASUN away win coming at North Florida (84-77) on Jan. 29. The Hatters’ offense, which averages 75.8 points per game, will be tested by an Eastern Kentucky defense that allows 78.5.

The Colonels have shown resilience at home, with recent wins over FGCU and a 89-69 rout of Bellarmine on Jan. 17. Their offense runs efficiently through guard MJ Williams, who dished out eight assists in the last outing.

Historically, the series has been closely contested. This will be the first meeting this season between the programs, who split their two games last year, each winning on their home court.

Following this game, Eastern Kentucky begins a two-game road swing at Lipscomb on Wednesday. Stetson returns home to host Jacksonville on Feb. 12.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
