Maine at Bryant
Preview: Maine Black Bears at Bryant Bulldogs
SMITHFIELD, R.I. (Interstat) — Two America East Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Maine Black Bears visit the Bryant Bulldogs at Chace Athletic Center.
Both teams enter with nearly identical struggles this season. Maine is 6-17 overall, while Bryant sits just one game better at 7-16. The matchup offers a chance for either squad to build on a rare positive result.
The Black Bears are coming off one of their best wins of the season, a 76-70 home victory over Vermont on Thursday. Guard Caleb Crawford led the way with 21 points in 26 minutes, continuing a pattern of explosive performances. In his last eight games, Crawford has topped 20 points twice and dished six assists on two other occasions. His backcourt play will be critical for Maine’s offense.
Bryant, meanwhile, is looking to rebound from a heartbreaking 65-63 loss to Albany on Thursday. The Bulldogs were led in that defeat by forward Timofei Rudovskii, who scored 24 points. Rudovskii has been a consistent offensive force, scoring 20 or more points in four of his last seven contests, including a 23-point effort in a win over New Hampshire on Jan. 31.
This game is a quick rematch of a Jan. 3 meeting in Orono, which Bryant won 56-51. In that defensive struggle, neither team shot above 36% from the field. Containing the opposing star will be a focal point; Crawford was held to just four points in the first matchup, while Rudovskii scored 13 for the Bulldogs.
For Maine, support for Crawford will need to come from players like TJ Biel and Mekhi Gray, who combined for 34 points in the win over Vermont. Bryant will counter with its own supporting cast, including Aaron Davis, who added 18 points against Albany.
With the America East tournament on the horizon, securing conference wins is paramount for both programs. Saturday’s contest represents a key opportunity to gain ground and confidence before the final stretch of the regular season.
Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026.
