American at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Interstat) — A surging Navy squad will look to avenge its most lopsided loss of the Patriot League season when it hosts American on Saturday at Alumni Hall.

The Midshipmen (18-6), who sit atop the conference standings, have won seven straight games since a 65-51 defeat at American on Jan. 12. That loss represents Navy’s only blemish in its last 13 contests. American (13-11) has struggled recently, losing three of its last four, including a last-second 60-59 home loss to Bucknell on Wednesday.

Navy’s resurgence has been fueled by guard Aidan Kehoe. Over the last eight games, Kehoe is averaging 17.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He posted 16 points and seven assists in Wednesday’s 65-50 win at Lafayette. In the January loss to American, Kehoe was held to eight points.

The Eagles will counter with guard Geoff Sprouse, who scored 12 points in the first meeting. Sprouse is coming off a 12-point effort against Bucknell and has reached double figures in four of his last seven games.

American’s victory over Navy last month was a defensive masterpiece, holding the Midshipmen to a season-low 51 points and 32.7% shooting from the field. Replicating that performance on the road will be a formidable challenge against a Navy team that has averaged 74.6 points during its seven-game win streak.

The matchup is critical for Patriot League positioning. Navy aims to solidify its hold on first place, while American seeks to climb from the middle of the pack and complete a regular-season sweep.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
