Indiana at UCLA
Preview: Indiana Hoosiers at UCLA Bruins
LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — Two teams riding winning streaks will clash Saturday when the Indiana Hoosiers visit the UCLA Bruins in a key Big Ten Conference men’s basketball matchup at Pauley Pavilion.
Indiana (14-7) has won two straight, including a 72-67 home victory over then-Purdue on Tuesday. UCLA (15-6) has won three consecutive games, most recently a 73-57 road win at Oregon on Wednesday. Both teams are jockeying for position in a deep conference race.
The Hoosiers are led by guard Nick Dorn, who is coming off an 18-point performance in the upset of Purdue. Over his last three games, Dorn is averaging 18.3 points, showing a return to form after a mid-January scoring slump. His backcourt mate, Conor Enright, dished out eight assists in the Purdue win and leads Indiana’s offense.
UCLA counters with forward Tyler Bilodeau, a consistent scoring threat who has averaged 20.2 points over his last five contests. He erupted for 30 points and eight rebounds in a narrow loss at Ohio State on Jan. 17 and posted 18 points in each of his last two outings. Guard Donovan Dent, who had 15 points and four assists against Oregon, provides backcourt balance.
Indiana’s recent surge followed a difficult five-game stretch where it lost four times. UCLA’s three-game win streak also helped stabilize its season after back-to-back losses at Wisconsin and Iowa earlier this month.
Defense will be a focal point. Indiana held a potent Purdue offense to 67 points, while UCLA has limited its last three opponents to an average of 59.7 points.
This marks the first meeting between the storied programs as Big Ten foes. The game is part of a challenging stretch for both; Indiana visits Southern California next Tuesday, while UCLA hosts Rutgers on the same night.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. PST Saturday.
