Hofstra at Monmouth

Preview: Hofstra Pride at Monmouth Hawks

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (Interstat) — Colonial Athletic Association rivals Hofstra and Monmouth will meet for the second time this month when the Pride visit the Hawks on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at the Multipurpose Activity Center.

Hofstra (13-8) looks to snap a four-game skid and complete a regular-season sweep after edging Monmouth 67-64 in overtime at home on Jan. 10. The Pride’s recent slide includes narrow road losses to North Carolina A&T and Stony Brook.

Monmouth (10-11) arrives with momentum following an 88-73 road victory at Campbell last Saturday. The Hawks have alternated wins and losses over their past six contests.

The matchup features two of the conference’s standout performers. Hofstra will rely on forward Victory Onuetu, who is coming off a 13-rebound performance in the loss at William & Mary. In the first meeting against Monmouth, Onuetu grabbed nine rebounds in 16 minutes.

Monmouth’s offense runs through guard Jason RiveraTorres, who torched Hofstra for 30 points and nine rebounds in the overtime loss earlier this month. He is fresh off a triple-double, posting 19 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in the win over Campbell.

The Pride have controlled the recent series, but the Hawks have been strong at home in conference play, including wins over William & Mary and Northeastern this month. Hofstra’s last victory came on Jan. 8 at Towson.

Saturday’s contest is critical for both teams’ positioning in the CAA standings as the regular season enters its final month. Following this game, Hofstra returns home to host Northeastern on Feb. 5, while Monmouth travels to face Stony Brook on the same date.

Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST.
