Stanford at Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Stanford Cardinal look to steady their ACC campaign against a Florida State Seminoles team seeking momentum when the programs meet Saturday at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
Stanford (14-7) arrives after a difficult stretch, having lost three of its last four games. The most recent was a 70-79 defeat at Miami on Wednesday, despite 17 points from guard Benny Gealer. The Cardinal’s conference record has been uneven, mixing a marquee 95-90 home win over North Carolina on Jan. 14 with several lopsided losses.
Florida State (9-12) snapped a three-game skid with a narrow 63-61 home victory over California on Wednesday, fueled by 18 points from forward Chauncey Wiggins. The Seminoles have struggled for consistency, suffering several blowout losses but also securing close road wins, including a 65-63 triumph at Miami on Jan. 20.
Gealer is a key barometer for Stanford. The guard scored 15 points in a loss at Virginia on Jan. 10 but was held to four points in losses to California and Duke. His backcourt play against Florida State’s pressure will be critical.
For the Seminoles, Wiggins has been a bright spot. He is coming off his 18-point performance against Cal and poured in 22 points in a narrow loss to Duke on Jan. 3. His ability to score from the perimeter will challenge Stanford’s defense.
The matchup, organized by the Atlantic Coast Conference, pits Stanford’s pursuit of a solid NCAA tournament resume against a Florida State squad aiming to climb out of the lower half of the league standings. The Cardinal have fared better on the road this season, including a win at Virginia Tech, while the Seminoles have found wins hard to secure at home in conference play.
Saturday’s contest will be the only scheduled meeting between the teams this regular season. Stanford next hosts Clemson on Feb. 4, while Florida State travels to Notre Dame on Feb. 7.
