Wofford at Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Interstat) — A key Southern Conference rematch awaits Thursday when the Wofford Terriers visit the Chattanooga Mocs at McKenzie Arena, with the hosts looking to repeat their victory from just two weeks ago.

The Terriers (14-7 overall) enter with momentum, having won three straight games, including an 80-77 victory over Mercer last Saturday. The Mocs (9-12), meanwhile, aim to halt a two-game skid following a 75-64 loss at Samford.

Wofford’s surge is led by dynamic guard Kahmare Holmes, who is playing at an all-conference level. Over his last five games, Holmes is averaging 27.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists, including a 27-point, 9-rebound, 7-assist performance against Mercer. His season high of 36 points came in a win over Samford on Jan. 21.

Chattanooga’s success hinges largely on the production of guard Tate Darner. In the Mocs’ 76-67 win at Wofford on Jan. 14, Darner scored a team-high 16 points. He has reached double figures in three of his last five contests but was held to nine points in the loss to Samford.

The Jan. 14 result provides the backdrop for this rematch. Chattanooga limited Wofford to 37% shooting from the field and outrebounded the Terriers 40-31 in that contest. Wofford will seek to return the favor on the Mocs’ home floor and avenge that defeat.

Beyond Holmes, Wofford has found consistent contributions from Nils Machowski, who scored 18 points in the win over Mercer. For Chattanooga, Brennan Watkins and Jordan Frison have provided secondary scoring, each posting 10-plus points in the recent loss to Samford.

The game is a critical conference matchup as the season’s midpoint passes. Wofford looks to solidify its position near the top of the SoCon standings, while Chattanooga seeks to climb back to .500 in league play and build on its earlier victory over the Terriers.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Thursday at McKenzie Arena.
