Marshall at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas (Interstat) — The surging Marshall Thundering Herd will look to continue their climb in the Sun Belt Conference standings when they visit the Texas State Bobcats on Wednesday night at Strahan Coliseum.

Marshall (13-7, 6-3 Sun Belt) enters on a high note after a dominant 115-60 victory over Louisiana-Monroe last Thursday. The Thundering Herd have won four of their last five, with their only loss in that stretch a narrow 85-83 defeat to Coastal Carolina. Forward Wyatt Fricks has been a consistent force, averaging 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds over his last seven games. He is coming off a near triple-double with 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks in just 21 minutes against ULM.

Texas State (11-11, 4-6) seeks to stabilize after back-to-back road losses at Coastal Carolina (72-70) and James Madison (82-57). The Bobcats have struggled for consistency in league play, alternating wins and losses over their past six games. Guard Kaden Gumbs is a key facilitator, logging heavy minutes and dishing 4.7 assists per game in conference play. He played all 40 minutes in the loss to JMU, finishing with nine points and four assists.

The matchup pits Marshall’s potent offense, which exploded for 115 points last week, against a Texas State team that has held opponents under 75 points in three of its four conference wins. The Herd’s recent success has been fueled by balanced contributions; in the win over ULM, Wilson Dubinsky added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Jalen Speer had 14 points and six assists.

For the Bobcats, finding offensive rhythm beyond Gumbs will be critical. DJ Hall (14 points vs. JMU) and Robert Fields provide supplementary scoring, but the team shot just 32.8% from the field in the loss to the Dukes.

Wednesday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this regular season. Marshall continues its road swing at Arkansas State on Saturday, while Texas State hosts Old Dominion to conclude a two-game homestand.

Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. EST.
