Austin Peay at Eastern Kentucky

Preview: Austin Peay Governors at Eastern Kentucky Colonels

RICHMOND, Ky. (Interstat) — A surging Austin Peay squad looks to continue its climb in the ASUN Conference standings when it visits struggling Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday night at McBrayer Arena.

The Governors (13-6, 6-1 ASUN) enter on a three-game winning streak and sit near the top of the league. They are coming off a 73-65 home victory over Stetson on Friday, powered by 21 points and nine rebounds from forward Rashaud Marshall. Austin Peay’s only conference loss came on the road at Lipscomb on Jan. 17.

The Colonels (7-14, 2-5) seek to halt a three-game skid, with all losses coming by six points or fewer, including an 85-87 defeat at North Florida and a 76-81 overtime loss at Jacksonville on Saturday. In that game, guard Montavious Myrick logged 41 minutes and scored 17 points.

This is a quick rematch of a Jan. 15 thriller in Clarksville, Tenn., where Austin Peay edged Eastern Kentucky 74-72. Marshall scored 12 points for the Governors, while Myrick led the Colonels with 15.

Marshall has been a consistent force for Austin Peay, averaging 16.4 points and 6.4 rebounds over his last eight games. Myrick has shouldered a heavy load for EKU, averaging 15.6 points over his last seven contests.

The matchup pits one of the ASUN’s most efficient teams against one seeking stability. Austin Peay has won seven of its last eight, while Eastern Kentucky has dropped eight of its last ten.

Following this game, Austin Peay travels to face West Georgia on Saturday. Eastern Kentucky will hit the road for a matchup at Central Arkansas the same day.
