Delaware at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. (Interstat) — A surging Liberty squad will look to extend its dominance in Conference USA play when it hosts struggling Delaware on Saturday at the Vines Center.

The Flames (16-3) enter the contest riding a nine-game winning streak, their latest a 76-69 road victory at Western Kentucky on Wednesday. Liberty sits atop the conference standings with a perfect 6-0 record.

Delaware (5-13) faces a steep challenge, having lost six of its last seven games. The Blue Hens are coming off a 97-68 home loss to New Mexico State last Saturday. Their lone win in that stretch was a 67-52 victory over Kennesaw State on Jan. 4.

Liberty is led by guard Kaden Metheny, who is averaging 13.6 points and 4.1 assists per game. He scored 19 points and dished six assists against Western Kentucky. The Flames boast a balanced attack, with four players averaging double figures in scoring during conference play.

Delaware will rely on forward Tyler Houser, its most consistent offensive threat. Houser is averaging 17.1 points per game and is coming off a 25-point performance in the loss to New Mexico State. Guard Christian Bliss, who had 19 points and five assists in that game, provides backcourt support.

The Flames have been formidable at home, winning 10 of their 11 games at the Vines Center this season. Delaware has struggled on the road, posting a 1-7 record away from Newark.

This matchup is the first of a home-and-home series between the new conference foes. They will meet again in Delaware on Feb. 4.

Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon. Liberty won the only previous meeting between the programs, 66-59, in 2013.
