Boston University at Colgate
Preview: Boston University at Colgate Men’s Basketball
HAMILTON, N.Y. (Interstat) — Patriot League rivals Boston University and Colgate will meet Saturday at Cotterell Court, with both teams looking to build momentum from contrasting midweek results.
The Terriers (8-12) arrive after a gritty 77-73 overtime victory over Lafayette on Wednesday. Guard Sam Hughes led the way with 23 points in 41 minutes, continuing his role as Boston University’s primary offensive catalyst. Hughes is averaging 13.1 points over his last seven games, including a 29-point performance against Lafayette earlier this month.
Colgate (11-9) looks to rebound after a 70-66 road loss to American on Wednesday, which snapped a two-game win streak. The Raiders are led by dynamic guard Jalen Cox, who scored 21 points in the loss. Cox has been a consistent force, averaging 17.9 points and 5.6 assists over his last seven contests, including a 29-point outing at Lafayette and a 13-point, 10-assist double-double against Bucknell.
The matchup features a contrast in conference trajectory. Colgate sits at 4-3 in Patriot League play, while Boston University is 3-4. The Terriers have shown a pattern of tight games, with three of their last four league contests decided in overtime.
Defensively, Boston University will rely on forward Ben Defty, who recorded five blocks against Lafayette. Containing Cox’s playmaking will be a priority. For Colgate, slowing Hughes and improving perimeter defense after American shot 50% from the field will be key.
Colgate holds the home-court advantage, where they are 7-2 this season. Boston University is 2-7 in true road games.
The teams will meet again in Boston on Feb. 16.
Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST Saturday.
