SIU Edwardsville at Southeast Missouri State

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Interstat) — A pivotal Ohio Valley Conference matchup between two teams seeking momentum awaits Saturday when SIU Edwardsville visits Southeast Missouri State at the Show Me Center.

The Cougars (10-8) and Redhawks (9-9) enter with identical 2-3 records in league play, making this a chance for either to climb toward the top half of the standings. Both are looking to rebound from home losses this past Thursday. SIUE fell 65-59 at Tennessee-Martin, while Southeast Missouri dropped an 88-76 decision to Lindenwood.

SIU Edwardsville will lean on forward Darrion Baker, who is coming off a 15-point effort in 31 minutes against the Skyhawks. Baker has been a consistent offensive threat, scoring 20 points in a win over Lindenwood on Jan. 6 and 15 in a narrow loss to Morehead State on Jan. 3. His production will be key for a Cougars team that has struggled in close games, with three of their conference losses coming by a combined five points.

For the Redhawks, guard PJ Farmer provides a spark off the bench. He scored 12 points in 20 minutes in the loss to Lindenwood. Southeast Missouri will need more from its starting core, particularly Luke Almodovar, who poured in 21 points in that same game.

The Redhawks have been strong at home in Cape Girardeau, boasting a 7-2 record at the Show Me Center this season. SIUE is 3-5 in true road games. Historically, Southeast Missouri holds a 15-10 advantage in the series, but the teams split last season’s meetings, each winning on their home floor.

This contest begins a critical stretch for both squads as they navigate the heart of the OVC schedule. The rematch is set for Thursday, Feb. 12, in Edwardsville.

Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CST.
