Southern Indiana at Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A struggling Southern Indiana squad seeks an elusive Ohio Valley Conference win when it visits a Tennessee State team aiming to rebound at home on Saturday.

The Screaming Eagles (3-12, 0-4 OVC) enter the Howard Gentry Complex mired in a seven-game losing streak. Their most recent outing was a 73-56 home loss to Tennessee-Martin on Jan. 10. Southern Indiana has not won since a non-conference victory over Kentucky State on Nov. 29.

Conversely, the Tigers (10-6, 3-2) look to bounce back from a narrow 74-70 road loss at Eastern Illinois last Saturday, which snapped a three-game winning streak. Tennessee State is 5-1 at home this season.

Southern Indiana will lean on guard Amaree Brown, who has provided a scoring spark despite the team’s struggles. Brown is averaging 16 points over his last two games, including a 17-point performance against Tennessee-Martin.

Tennessee State counters with its own high-scoring guard in Khalil London. He erupted for 23 points in the loss to Eastern Illinois and is averaging 19 points over his last two contests. His backcourt play will be central to the Tigers’ offensive plans.

The matchup pits the OVC’s lowest-winning percentage team against one of its hottest. Southern Indiana’s defense, allowing 75.1 points per game, will be tested by a Tennessee State offense averaging 77.4 points.

This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the programs this season. They are slated to meet again in Evansville, Indiana, on Feb. 12.

Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon.
