Elon at Hofstra
Preview: Elon Visits Hofstra in Key Colonial Athletic Association Matchup
STEWART MANOR, N.Y. (Interstat) — A pair of teams looking to rebound from midweek losses will meet Saturday when the Hofstra Pride host the Elon Phoenix in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball game at Mack Sports Complex.
Hofstra (13-5 overall) enters the contest with the better record, but is coming off a 76-71 road defeat at Stony Brook on Thursday. The Pride had won five straight prior to that setback. Elon (11-7) also looks to bounce back after falling 85-78 at Northeastern on Thursday.
The matchup features two of the conference’s top guards. Hofstra will rely on Preston Edmead, who is averaging 19.2 points over his last five games. He scored 22 points in the loss to Stony Brook. Elon counters with Bryson Cokley, who is coming off a career-high 26 points and seven assists against Northeastern. Cokley has scored 20 or more points in three of his last six outings.
Hofstra has been strong at home this season, including notable non-conference wins over Pittsburgh and Syracuse in December. The Pride’s defense will be tested by an Elon offense that has scored 78 or more points in four of its last five games, despite the 1-3 record in that stretch.
Elon’s recent results have been a rollercoaster, with its last four games decided by five points or fewer, going 2-2 in those contests. Hofstra has more consistently found ways to win close games, with four victories by four points or fewer this season.
This game marks the start of a critical stretch for both teams as they navigate the CAA schedule. Hofstra will aim to protect its home court and stay near the top of the conference standings, while Elon seeks a resume-building road win.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.
