Texas A&M at Texas
Preview: Texas A&M Visits Texas in SEC Showdown
AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — A heated rivalry renewed under the Southeastern Conference banner highlights Saturday’s college basketball slate as the Texas A&M Aggies visit the Texas Longhorns at the Frank Erwin Center.
The Aggies (13-4, 3-1 SEC) enter with momentum despite a tough 87-82 double-overtime loss at Tennessee on Tuesday. Texas A&M has won five of its last six, including key conference victories over Oklahoma and Auburn. The Longhorns (11-6, 2-2) have rebounded from a two-game skid with consecutive wins over Alabama and Vanderbilt.
Texas A&M is led by guard Jacari Lane, who is coming off a stellar 20-point, nine-assist performance in 41 minutes against the Volunteers. Over his last seven games, Lane is averaging 11.6 points and 4.3 assists, serving as the catalyst for an Aggie offense averaging 86.2 points per game.
Texas counters with forward Matas Vokietaitis, who scored 22 points in Wednesday’s 80-64 win over Vanderbilt. He has topped 19 points in three of his last five outings, providing a consistent scoring threat inside. Tramon Mark (21 points vs. Vanderbilt) and Dailyn Swain (14 points, seven assists) offer additional firepower for the Longhorns.
The Aggies’ recent success has been built on offensive efficiency and resilience, with their four losses coming by a combined 18 points, three in overtime. Texas seeks to improve its defensive consistency after allowing 92.5 points per game in its two SEC losses.
This marks the first meeting between the former Big 12 foes as SEC conference opponents. Texas holds a 142-89 all-time series advantage, but the programs have not met since the 2018-19 season.
Saturday’s contest is a critical early conference matchup for both teams’ postseason aspirations. Texas A&M looks to solidify its Top 25 standing and remain near the top of the SEC, while Texas aims for a resume-building win to bolster its NCAA tournament prospects.
Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. CST Saturday in Austin.
