Bellarmine at Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. (Interstat) — Two ASUN Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Bellarmine Knights visit the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at McBrayer Arena.

Both teams enter the 6-11 overall matchup with identical 6-11 records. Bellarmine (0-2 ASUN) is looking for its first conference win, while Eastern Kentucky (2-1 ASUN) aims to rebound from a narrow road loss.

The Knights are coming off a 71-81 defeat at Lipscomb on Thursday. Bellarmine has lost five of its last six games, with the lone win an 84-78 overtime victory against Central Arkansas on Jan. 8.

Eastern Kentucky fell 72-74 at Austin Peay on Thursday, snapping a two-game winning streak. The Colonels’ conference wins came last week at home against North Alabama and Central Arkansas.

A key matchup will feature Bellarmine’s Jack Karasinski against Eastern Kentucky’s Turner Buttry. Karasinski, a consistent scoring threat, is averaging 19.8 points over his last six games. He scored 16 points in the loss to Lipscomb and had a season-high 24 points in games against Queens (N.C.) and Kentucky.

Buttry, a facilitator for the Colonels, is coming off a 14-point performance at Austin Peay. He dished out five assists in a win over North Alabama and scored 19 points in that contest.

Bellarmine’s offense will lean on Karasinski and Brian Waddell, who added 13 points against Lipscomb. Eastern Kentucky will counter with Montavious Myrick, who led the team with 15 points in its last outing, and Austin Ball, who scored 12.

Historically, the teams have split their last four meetings. They will meet again in Louisville on Feb. 21.

The Knights continue ASUN play at Jacksonville on Jan. 22. The Colonels travel to face North Florida on the same date.
