Colgate Overpowers Bucknell in Patriot League Showdown

HAMILTON, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Colgate Raiders, led by a dominant offensive performance and a double-double from point guard Jalen Cox, overwhelmed the Bucknell Bisons 95-76 in a Patriot League men’s basketball game Saturday at Cotterell Court.

The most important stretch of the game came early, as Colgate established immediate control. The Raiders opened the contest on a 9-0 run, capitalizing on Bucknell’s cold start. The Bison missed their first six field goal attempts, including four from three-point range, before finally getting on the board. Colgate’s early surge, fueled by Sam Wright’s interior scoring and stifling defense that produced multiple stops, set a decisive tone. Bucknell spent the entire evening attempting to climb out of that initial hole but never managed to draw even, as Colgate’s efficient offense consistently answered every push.

Colgate’s victory was built on superior shooting and offensive execution. The Raiders connected on 56.7% of their shots from the field and hit 12 of 27 from beyond the arc. They scored 95 points on just 71 possessions, an exceptionally efficient offensive rating of 133.0. Bucknell, by contrast, shot 43.6% overall and a frigid 6 of 26 from three-point territory, managing an offensive rating of 103.5.

The Raiders’ scoring was balanced and prolific. Andrew Alekseyenko, a 6-foot-8 forward from Brookline, Massachusetts, led all scorers with 22 points, adding four assists and a block. Sam Wright of Hoover, Alabama, contributed 17 points, while Ben Tweedy from Rockhampton, Australia, chipped in 14 points and three assists. Brady Cummins provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, including two three-pointers, and a block.

The orchestrator was Cox, a 6-foot-3 guard from Los Angeles. He controlled the game with 13 points and 10 assists, securing his second double-double of the season and consistently breaking down the Bucknell defense to create high-percentage shots for his teammates.

Bucknell was led by Pat Curtin of Ellicott City, Maryland, who scored 18 points. Amon Dörries, a 6-foot-11 center from Potsdam, Germany, added 15 points, and Achile Spadone of Geneva, Switzerland, finished with 13. The Bison were effective at the free-throw line, making 22 of 24 attempts, but could not offset Colgate’s overwhelming advantages in field goal percentage, three-point shooting, and fast-break points, where the Raiders held a 13-6 edge.

Colgate improved its season record to 11-8 overall and 3-1 in the Patriot League. Bucknell fell to 6-13 and 2-2 in conference play. The Raiders, who were an 8.5-point pregame favorite, outperformed the betting line and saw the total score of 171 easily surpass the over/under of 139.

Colgate next plays at American on Wednesday. Bucknell returns home to host Army on Wednesday. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 7.
