Youngstown State at Wright State

FAIRBORN, Ohio (Interstat) — A pivotal Horizon League matchup awaits Thursday as the surging Wright State Raiders host the Youngstown State Penguins at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

Wright State (11-7, 5-2 Horizon) enters on a season-best six-game winning streak, including a decisive 94-84 road victory at Oakland last Sunday. The Raiders’ offense has found its rhythm, averaging 84.2 points during the streak. Guard Solomon Callaghan has been instrumental, erupting for a career-high 27 points in the Oakland win and averaging 17.2 points over the last five contests.

Youngstown State (9-8, 3-4) seeks consistency after a 99-61 rout of Bryant & Stratton last Friday snapped a three-game skid. The Penguins’ recent league losses, however, have been narrow, with two defeats by a combined four points. Forward Bryson Dawkins is a key barometer; in Youngstown State’s last three wins, he averaged 18.7 points and 7.0 rebounds, including a 21-point, 8-rebound performance last week.

This game is a quick rematch of a Dec. 3 thriller, which Youngstown State won 69-68 on its home floor. The Penguins have won the last two meetings overall.

The Raiders will look to leverage home court advantage, where they are 6-2 this season, and continue their climb up the conference standings. The Penguins aim to replicate their defensive intensity from the first matchup and steal a critical road win to reach .500 in league play.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Thursday. Wright State’s next game is at home against Cleveland State on Jan. 21. Youngstown State travels to face Cleveland State on Jan. 17.
