Air Force at San Jose State
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt extended slides will meet Tuesday when the Air Force Falcons visit the San Jose State Spartans in a Mountain West Conference men’s basketball matchup.
The game at the Event Center pits struggling squads. Air Force (3-13, 0-3 MW) enters on a five-game losing streak, most recently suffering a 91-49 home defeat to New Mexico on Saturday. San Jose State (5-11, 0-3) has dropped three straight, including a 76-58 loss at Grand Canyon on Saturday.
Both teams are searching for their first conference win of the season. The Falcons have lost their league games by an average of 30.3 points. The Spartans’ conference losses have come by an average margin of 18.7 points.
A key player for Air Force will be Caleb Walker, who is coming off an 11-point, seven-rebound performance against New Mexico. Over his last five games, Walker is averaging 10.8 points. Kam Sanders, who led the Falcons with 13 points in the loss to the Lobos, provides additional scoring.
San Jose State will lean on Ben Roseborough, who erupted for 23 points in 28 minutes against Grand Canyon. His scoring punch will be vital for a Spartans offense that has been held under 70 points in four of its last five games. Melvin Bell, who added 17 points in the last outing, is another consistent contributor.
The Falcons have found wins scarce, with their last victory coming against IU Indy on Nov. 23. Their road record this season is 1-6. The Spartans have had slightly more success at home, posting a 4-4 record at the Event Center, including an overtime win over Long Beach State on Dec. 9.
Historically, Mountain West play has been a challenge for both programs. This game represents one of the more winnable opportunities on the league schedule for each team as they look to build momentum for the second half of the season.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. PST on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
