Indiana at Michigan State

Preview: Indiana at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. (Interstat) — A pivotal early-season Big Ten clash unfolds Tuesday when the Indiana Hoosiers visit the fifth-ranked Michigan State Spartans at Breslin Center.

Both teams enter with strong overall records but seek a statement conference victory. Indiana (12-4, 1-2 Big Ten) looks to rebound from a damaging 83-77 home loss to Nebraska last Saturday. Michigan State (14-2, 2-1) aims to build momentum after a 76-66 home win over Northwestern last Thursday.

The spotlight will be on Indiana guard Lamar Wilkerson, who has been on a scoring tear. Despite the loss to Nebraska, Wilkerson poured in 32 points, marking his fifth consecutive game with 21 or more points. Over that stretch, he is averaging 24.4 points while playing nearly 38 minutes per game. His backcourt duel with Michigan State’s backcourt, led by Jeremy Fears who had 15 points and five assists against Northwestern, will be critical.

Michigan State counters with its own formidable frontcourt, anchored by forward Carson Cooper. He is coming off an efficient 18-point performance against Northwestern and has been a consistent defensive presence, recording multiple blocks in four of his last six games. His matchup with Indiana’s Tucker DeVries (17 points, six rebounds vs. Nebraska) and Reed Bailey (10 points, nine rebounds) in the paint will be a key battleground.

The Spartans have been dominant at home, boasting an 8-0 record at Breslin Center this season, including a decisive 80-51 victory over Southern California on Jan. 5. Indiana, however, has struggled recently on the road in conference play, with losses at Minnesota and Louisville in early December.

Historically, this series has been fiercely contested, and Tuesday’s matchup carries significant weight for the conference standings. A win would give Michigan State a valuable resume boost and solidify its top-tier status, while Indiana desperately needs a high-quality road win to avoid an 0-3 start in Big Ten away games.

The game is scheduled for a 9 p.m. EST tipoff on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, and will be televised nationally.
