UC Irvine at Hawaii

HONOLULU (Interstat) — A pivotal early-season Big West men’s basketball showdown is set for Saturday when the UC Irvine Anteaters visit the Hawaii Warriors at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Both teams enter the January 10, 2026, contest with strong records and momentum from successful non-conference slates. UC Irvine (12-5) has won four straight, including a 74-64 victory over Long Beach State on Thursday. Hawaii (11-3) saw a six-game win streak snapped in its last outing, an 83-73 loss at UC San Diego on Jan. 3.

The matchup features two of the conference’s top guards. UC Irvine’s Jurian Dixon has been on a scoring tear, averaging 19.3 points over his last six games. He poured in 23 points in the win over Long Beach State and scored 26 in a road victory at Cal State Bakersfield on New Year’s Day. His backcourt counterpart, Hawaii’s Dre Bullock, provides steady all-around play. He tallied 15 points, four assists and two blocks in the loss to UCSD and is a key facilitator for the Warriors’ offense.

Hawaii has been dominant at home this season, boasting a perfect 6-0 record in Honolulu. Their average margin of victory at the Stan Sheriff Center is 24.8 points, including a 98-46 rout of Hawaii Hilo and a 92-55 win over North Dakota. The Warriors’ defense has held opponents to an average of just 60.2 points on their home floor.

UC Irvine will test that home-court advantage with a balanced attack. Alongside Dixon, Kyle Evans (15 points vs. Long Beach State) and Tama Isaac provide consistent scoring. The Anteaters have shown resilience in close games, edging North Dakota State 74-73 and Cal State Bakersfield 81-77 during their current streak.

This game marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams, with the rematch scheduled for Jan. 29 in Irvine. Saturday’s winner will gain an early advantage in the Big West standings as both squads position themselves for postseason contention. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. HST.
