LSU at Vanderbilt
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The undefeated and No. 1-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores put their perfect record on the line Saturday when they host the LSU Tigers in a Southeastern Conference men’s basketball matchup at Memorial Gymnasium.
Vanderbilt (15-0, 2-0 SEC) is one of the nation’s last remaining unbeaten teams and is coming off a high-scoring 96-90 home victory over Alabama on Wednesday. The Commodores have been installed as a 14-point favorite, with an over/under of 162.5 points.
The Commodores are powered by star guard Tyler Tanner, who is playing at an All-American level. In his last two games, Tanner poured in 29 points with seven assists against Alabama and followed with a 19-point, 14-assist double-double in a road win at South Carolina. His playmaking and scoring have been the engine for the nation’s top-ranked offense.
LSU (12-3, 0-2) enters seeking its first conference win after dropping its SEC opener at Texas A&M 75-72 and falling at home to South Carolina 78-68 on Tuesday. The Tigers’ defense, which has been stout for much of the season, will face its toughest test yet against Vanderbilt’s explosive attack.
A key for the Tigers will be the production of forward Robert Miller. After a 21-minute, nine-point performance against South Carolina, LSU needs more consistent offense from its interior players to keep pace. Max Mackinnon (15 points vs. South Carolina) and Pablo Tamba provide additional scoring options.
The game features a stark contrast in recent momentum. Vanderbilt has passed early conference tests with flair, while LSU looks to avoid an 0-3 league start in a hostile environment. The Tigers have lost two straight after a seven-game winning streak, and a trip to Nashville offers a formidable challenge to stop the slide.
Following this game, Vanderbilt hits the road to face Texas on Jan. 14, while LSU returns home to host Kentucky on the same date.
