Boston College at Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — The Louisville Cardinals will look to rebound from a tough stretch against top-tier competition when they host the Boston College Eagles in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at KFC Yum! Center.

Louisville (11-4) enters the matchup having lost two straight, both to ranked opponents. The Cardinals fell 84-73 to Duke on Tuesday after an 80-76 loss at Stanford on Jan. 2. Prior to that, they had won five of six, including a dominant 90-70 road victory at California.

A key player for the Cardinals will be Aly Khalifa. The guard scored a season-high 17 points in 20 minutes off the bench against Duke, providing a needed spark. His playmaking will be crucial against an Eagles defense that has struggled at times.

Boston College (7-8) also seeks to end a skid, having lost its last two games. The Eagles fell 79-71 to North Carolina State on Tuesday after a 65-53 loss at Georgia Tech. Their season has been marked by inconsistency, with a notable overtime loss to LSU and a narrow defeat to Tulane in nonconference play.

The Eagles will rely heavily on guard Fred Payne, who is coming off a 24-point, four-assist performance against the Wolfpack. Payne has shown high-scoring capability, dropping 22 points in a win over Le Moyne on Dec. 28, but was held to just two points in the loss to Georgia Tech.

Louisville holds a distinct advantage in record and has performed well at home, boasting decisive wins over Montana, Memphis and NJIT in Louisville. Boston College is 1-2 in true road games this season.

Historically, the Cardinals have dominated the series, winning 15 of the 18 matchups since both schools joined the ACC.

Following this game, Boston College travels to Clemson on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Louisville’s next contest is at Pittsburgh on Jan. 17.

Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
