Central Arkansas at Eastern Kentucky
RICHMOND, Ky. (Interstat) — Two ASUN Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Central Arkansas Bears visit the Eastern Kentucky Colonels at McBrayer Arena.
Central Arkansas (7-9, 2-1 ASUN) enters off a tough 84-78 overtime road loss at Bellarmine on Thursday. Eastern Kentucky (5-11, 1-2) snapped a three-game skid with an 88-80 home victory over North Alabama the same night.
The matchup features two of the league’s top offensive talents. Central Arkansas is led by dynamic guard Ty Robinson, who is averaging 24.3 points over his last four games. He scored 24 points with five assists in the overtime loss at Bellarmine. For the season, Robinson has been a consistent scoring threat, posting 27 points in a win over Florida Gulf Coast and 28 in a road game at SMU.
Eastern Kentucky counters with guard Turner Buttry, who is coming off a 19-point, five-assist performance in the win over North Alabama. Buttry has shown scoring bursts this season, including a 19-point outing in a road win at Jacksonville State.
The Bears have shown a potent offense in conference play, averaging 85.3 points in their three ASUN games, including a 93-point outburst against Stetson. However, defensive consistency has been an issue, as they allowed 84 points in the Bellarmine loss.
The Colonels, under first-year coach A.W. Hamilton, have struggled to find a rhythm but showed resilience in their comeback win Thursday. They will need to contain Robinson to secure a second straight conference win.
Central Arkansas holds the better overall record, but Eastern Kentucky has the home-court advantage in what projects as a fast-paced, guard-oriented contest. The teams will meet again in Conway, Arkansas, on Jan. 31.
Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. EST tipoff.
