Stanford at Virginia
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Interstat) — Two of the nation’s hottest teams will collide Saturday when Stanford visits Virginia in a marquee nonconference men’s basketball showdown at John Paul Jones Arena.
The matchup, organized by the Atlantic Coast Conference, features the Cardinal (13-3) and the Cavaliers (13-2), each riding four-game winning streaks. Both squads are coming off impressive Wednesday afternoon victories, setting the stage for a high-stakes January clash.
Stanford arrives after a dramatic 69-68 road win at Virginia Tech, sealed by a last-second stop. The Cardinal’s surge is fueled by star guard Ebuka Okorie, who poured in 31 points in that victory. Over his last five games, Okorie is averaging 25.6 points, including four performances of 28 points or more. His backcourt brilliance will be central to Stanford’s attack against Virginia’s renowned defense.
Virginia countered with a dominant 84-60 rout of California, showcasing its efficient, balanced system. Cavaliers’ guard Malik Thomas has been a consistent force, averaging 14.8 points per game. He scored 20 in just 24 minutes against Cal and delivered 26 points in Virginia’s triple-overtime loss to Virginia Tech on Dec. 31, the team’s only setback in its last nine contests.
The game pits Stanford’s potent offense, which has scored 77 or more points in six of its last eight wins, against Virginia’s stifling pack-line defense. The Cavaliers have held 10 opponents under 70 points this season.
Stanford’s visit begins a brutal stretch for both teams. The Cardinal host North Carolina and Duke next week, while Virginia hits the road for ACC play, visiting SMU on Jan. 17.
Tipoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at John Paul Jones Arena. The winner will secure a pivotal resume-building victory as the march toward March intensifies.
