Utah State Aggies Dominate Air Force Falcons in Mountain West Rout

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (Interstat) — The Utah State Aggies delivered a commanding performance from the opening tip, overwhelming the Air Force Falcons with a relentless offensive display and suffocating defense to secure a 99-62 victory in a Mountain West Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday night at Clune Arena.

The Aggies, improving to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play, left no doubt about their dominance, establishing a double-digit lead within the first five minutes and never allowing the Falcons to mount a challenge. Air Force fell to 3-12 and 0-3.

The most critical phase of the contest was its explosive beginning. Utah State set the tone immediately, forcing two quick turnovers from Air Force’s Kam Sanders and converting them into easy baskets. Mason Falslev secured an offensive rebound and putback just 23 seconds in, and on the ensuing possession after another Sanders turnover, MJ Collins drained a 3-pointer off a Falslev assist. Before the first media timeout, the Aggies had raced to a 7-0 lead, a margin that would only swell as the half progressed.

Utah State’s first-half execution was nearly flawless. They shot efficiently, shared the ball with nine assists on 18 made field goals, and capitalized on 10 Air Force turnovers to build a 45-31 lead at the break. The Aggies’ defensive pressure disrupted the Falcons’ offensive sets consistently, limiting them to 31 points in each half.

The second half offered no respite for the home team. Utah State opened the period with a 10-3 run, punctuated by consecutive dunks from Collins and Adlan Elamin, extending their lead to 55-34 and effectively extinguishing any lingering hope of a Falcons rally. The Aggies’ depth was on full display as they continued to pour in points, ultimately outscoring Air Force 54-31 after halftime.

Collins led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, adding three steals. Kolby King provided a spark off the bench with 15 points and four assists, while Falslev filled the stat sheet with 13 points, three assists and three steals. Elamin contributed 13 points and five rebounds in just 14 minutes of action.

For Air Force, which struggled to find any consistent offensive rhythm, Caleb Walker was a bright spot with 12 points and six rebounds. Kam Sanders added 11 points and three assists, but also committed five of the Falcons’ 18 turnovers. Eli Robinson, playing a team-high 34 minutes, finished with nine points, one assist and one block.

The Aggies’ bench outscored Air Force’s reserves 52-26, with significant contributions beyond the key performers. Luke Kearney scored all 10 of his points in the final seven minutes, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Utah State’s offensive balance was starkly evident as they assisted on 23 of their 37 made field goals. Defensively, they tallied 12 steals and blocked two shots, consistently turning defense into instant offense and finishing with a 28-9 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Falcons, who entered the game having lost eight of their last nine, could not match the Aggies’ intensity or skill. They were held to under 40% shooting from the field and connected on just 5 of 24 attempts from beyond the arc.

The victory extends Utah State’s winning streak to four games as they continue to build momentum in conference play. Air Force, meanwhile, searches for answers during a difficult start to their league schedule.

The announced attendance was 1,027.

Utah State next travels to face Boise State on Saturday. Air Force will host New Mexico, also on Saturday.
